I just picked up this Call Of Duty: Black Ops – First Strike Map Pack and the new zombie map, Ascension is just amazing. Below is what I emailed to friends immediately after playing it to convince them to buy it. :P
I’m exploring the Ascension map on solo right now. It’s soooo gooood. There’s a lunar lander to fly you to different locations. There are two new kinds of perks:
one to make you run faster; and
one so you don’t die if you jump off something high. It also allows you to kill things with an exploding dive that I will show in the video.
Overall the map definitely makes a good use of the 3rd dimension.
The video is longer than I would have liked. Originally I only intended to create a video to show the glitch. It turned into a monkey round and I just left the camera rolling. Fast forward to the end (5:30 mark) to see the glitch.
This video starts with a monkey round. The monkeys are “dogs” of this map. They are little punks because they go after the perk machines so if you want to keep that perk, you have to guard the machine. This makes it tough on solo because the machines are spread apart and if you have all the perks… no hope of keeping them all. On multiplayer you have to split up to guard multiple machines. Sometimes for strategy you leave doors closed so that you don’t lose perks you earned by killing the monkeys. (If you successfully deal with the monkeys on multiplayer, you are rewarded with a random perk.)
Since I felt that I had figured out Kino Der Toten, for the most part, I was on to new zombie related challenges. Call of Duty Black Ops fortunately has another zombie map called Five which becomes available if you’ve finished the story mode of the game.
Five is set in the Pentagon and the four characters you play in full multiplayer are Fidel Castro, JFK, Richard Nixon and Robert McNamara (pretty jokes just on that fact). Defending yourselves inside the Pentagon from countless hordes of relentless zombies? Sign me up!
There are three levels and consensus seems to be that camping the President’s Room is the way to go. This room becomes available when you enable all 5 Defcon switches in the 2nd/middle level of the map and also happens to be where you Pack-A-Punch your weapon. After enabling all switches, jump into the middle teleporter of any level, it should be showing the Pack-A-Punch icon.
The video shows a grenade/monkey glitch as well as showing how to camp the room. Add claymores to further secure the room. If the zombies overwhelm you, you can escape back through the teleporter.

I didn’t add the video clip I had of killing the scientist but it’s pretty easy. Everyone on the team just has to stay in the upper railing of the middle level of the map (where you come out of the President’s Room, e.g. the only level with two elevators). He only chases one guy. So the guy he’s chasing just run away in one direction continuously as fast as you can. Everyone else stay out of the runner’s way and shoot at the red. And if he steals your gun don’t cry because if you kill him you get it back and the team gets a Max Ammo.
